The new kitchen
Those who know me know that I’m a non - renovator kind of gal. The mess does my head in even painting rooms and moving furniture sends my stress levels sky rocketing.
Having this introduction into my strange psyche, you won’t be surprised as you read on.
At my suggestion, my partner and I decided to give our kitchen a facelift, after all it was 18 years old and a little dated. Not that we wanted the latest and greatest shiny, bells and whistles kind of kitchen, no! Just one that is more functional and brighter. We contacted a builder; we know to set the changes in motion. This guy is a big bloke from the old dart; he is always full of ideas, usually ideas that cost lots of money. After measuring, getting our thoughts on the project, and throwing in a suggestion or two of his own, we were underway. I asked him in my non - builder kind of way, ‘how long will it take?’ “once you pick the colour of the top; we will order it and wait about a week; the cupboards will be here in a couple of days." So, I think well we will wait for the cupboards followed by the top and work will begin. Think again, two days later he was pulling out the old kitchen, leaving us with nothing, and I mean nothing we had to bring the camping stove in - order to cook and eat. I'm, thinking this will be ok for a couple of days, no it was for ten days. 10 very long days of walking around the contents of all our kitchen cupboards, having more salad than I’m comfortable with and using the barbeque to off - set the camping stove.
It seemed to go on forever; I can’t regale the gory details as it still turns my stomach and raises my stress. Needless to say, after 10 days we had a very modern kitchen with all that we asked for. If renovations are ever discussed again I will take a very long overseas holiday to avoid the calamity.
